I recently read my first KJ Charles, Band Sinister, and enjoyed the heck out of the band of libertines in it. Their found family/polyamory is very well-wrought and entertaining.
(as always) I have a TBR stack, but frankly I'm gulping down fanfic - ALL the fanfic - because I don't have to think and it's easy to fall into a spiral, thus killing hours and hours
I have been reading predominantly Hugo nominated work, so I'm reading a lot of good SF/F/H. In reverse order of completion, only the stuff I'm rating 5 stars, read in May:
* Exhalation (Ted Chiang) - short fiction collection, very varied, everything great * Rosewater (Tade Thompson) - book 1 of 3; near future Nigeria, telepaths, aliens, first contact. * Catfishing on CatNet (Naomi Kritzer) * Deeplight (Frances Hardinge) - oh, my, the world building. * Middlegame (Seanan McGuire) * To Be Taught, If Fortunate (Becky Chambers)
.. I've read a few other things, but none of them have quite made it to the same high standard.
