I've gotten my mom to mostly stop sending me bad news, which is helpful under the circumstances. It doesn't slow down the flow of Interesting Links by much.
people in my computer - misbegotten with multiple daily e-mails and occasional texts and rattlecatcher with lengthy (multiple hour) phone calls every week or so, and Rica the same
family - calls with my mom every few days, and regular/daily text and sometimes e-mail exchanges with my sister, though we don't talk on the phone that often
and I exchange snail mail semi-regularly with misbegotten and james, in addition to the cards I send out randomly to folks in my address book
I've got two friends in town where I'm the emergency contact for them. (Their next of kin are states away.) I contact them regularly, and am in close contact with some of my friends online, via discord or email or Trillian. Oddly, my mother and I talk only a couple times a month, but she's extremely hard of hearing and finds phone calls and Facetime exhausting. (I wish she was on Trillian.)
I lowered my phone time-per-month considerably by getting my mom into GChat. She was already using a gmail address, so it was just a case of teaching her the functionality and letting her go wild texting me stuff at all hours of the day and night.
We would normally meet up at the end of this month for a four-day weekend in York of fic/TV/ice cream/high pitched shrieking/general hilarity, but alas, it will be virtual this year!
Mostly two local friends but one is 90% messaging to organise in-person meetups. There are also a couple of other people who I message with a couple of times a month. I am horrible about phone calls but trying to get into them more, at least for the people who I cannot see in person, which is sadly too many because a lot of my local friends have moved away.
I also have about 20 penpals but only about 4 or so are fast repliers. I take a lot of time to reply these days so that is A-OK with me. I love writing letters with my fountain pens.
I used to IM with a couple of people I met via LJ and DW but that has not happened in a while and Yahoo!Messenger, which I used to use, does not even exist anymore. I miss those days. I guess I should try to get into Discord. Hm.
Yes, I love that I am no longer in half-quarantine nor in the hospital and able to meet up with friends in person. It is a great joy and raises quality of life so much!
Oh, some of those are only once a year so it is less impressive as it sounds. But it is my main hobby outside of meeting friends in person and reading and watching Youtube, which are more passive. I love it a lot.
So far, I have downloaded the app and bookmarked some links to groups that might be interesting. But I have social anxiety and not a lot of energy so have not gotten any further than that. Hehe. Thank you for the good wishes, though! Much appreciated.

I don't know where one starts with getting into Discord, so I will wish you luck and leave it at that.
